Arthur “Art” Belarde is the Head Instructor and Coach of Art of War Jiujitsu. Art is a brazillian jiujitsu brown belt, a seasoned MMA fighter, and former leader of Riot MMA.
Art is originally from Anchorage, Alaska. While living in the “last frontier” state, Art wrestled and developed a passion for body building during high school. Art enrolled in the navy after high school and joined the Puget Sound naval bodybuilding competition team. Art‘s continued enthusiasm for bodybuilding and the human anatomy lead to his enrollment in the Navy’s orthopedic specialty school. Upon Art‘s return from orthopedic specialty school. Art settled in Florida and he delved back into wrestling at the encouragement of his commanding officer.
Wrestling again ignited Art‘s interest for combat sports and compelled him to explore numerous martial arts disciplines, including: wrestling, Krav Maga, Tae Kwon Do, Karate, and Hawaiian Juijitsu. However, Art could not find a martial art that deeply resonated with him. However, Art finally discovered a martial art that he could truly dedicate himself to when he met Arturo Romeres, a Brazilian jujitsu purple belt under Eduardo de Lima. The time spent with Arturo Romeres convinced Art that he needed to dedicate his life to the practice of submission grappling and combat sports.
Art‘s dedication to Brazilian jujitsu would eventually expose him to MMA. After cross training with striking and shoot boxing, Art entered the world of MMA. From 2012 to 2016, Art actively trained and competed in MMA bouts against talented opponents. Art demonstrated such skill in his matches that he was asked to take over as senior grappling coach for Team Riot MMA. During his time at Team Riot MMA, Art coached and instructed numerous professional and amateur fighters. Coaching fighters enabled Art to witness the positive changes that can occur in a person’s life because of martial arts and, more importantly, the powerful impact that a coach can have on a persons life.
Art’s fascination with martial arts and deep desire to assist others has lead him to open Art of War Jiujitsu. At Art of War Jiujitsu, Art intends to share his passion for martial arts with the community and, in doing so, have a positively impact on his neighbors.
