Before You Arrive

Give Us A Call

Before you arrive on your first day of class, please give us a call. We want to take the time to speak with you and to learn more about your goals and aspirations. We want to answer any questions that you may have and give you more information about the academy beyond the information on the website.

The Welcome

Please let us know when you may want to come in for your first class. Advanced notice will allow us to ensure that we’re able to devote the proper time to welcoming you and introducing you to the rest of the AOW family. After all, our first priority is to make sure that you have an excellent experience.

What to Wear

Before you come to your first class, you’ll need to figure out what to wear. You don’t need to own any special gear for your first class. T-shirts, board shorts and sweat pants are all fine. We would not recommend wearing anything with extra pockets, belt loops or baggy fabric. Such clothing items are undesirable because fingers and toes can get caught in them. Baggy cargo shorts are a common example of what not to wear. Also, you should remove any piercings or jewelry to prevent injuries.

What to Bring

Pack a pair of flip-flops if you have them, and bring a bottle of water as well. The flip-flops are for you to wear while you’re walking around the gym. You should remove your shoes when you get changed, and wear flip flops to walk up to the matted area, then step on the mats barefoot. This is done for hygiene reasons. Since people will be rolling around on the mats, it’s important to keep them clean. Also, depending on your comfortability, you should bring a mouth piece if you would like to spar.

Please make sure that your finger and toe nails are well-groomed. If you have long hair, you’ll want to put it up in a ponytail or bun during class.
